Urban Orchard

Transforming forgotten fruits into a flourishing shared resource

Urban Orchard is a permaculture project to utilise neglected fruit trees in people’s gardens and share the fruits of our labour. People who have fruit trees in their gardens – who don’t have the time, interest or ability to look after them – share their trees with those who would love to have fruit trees to nurture and harvest.

If you are interested in this concept of an Urban Orchard, please register your interest to get involved or contact us via info@urbanorchard.nz.

Pilot project

We have started a pilot project in the Manurewa and Gardens area in South Auckland and are holding our next event on Sunday 10 December at the Auckland Botanic Gardens. For more information see the Manurewa and Gardens Urban Orchard Pilot Project page.

What is an Urban Orchard?

People who have trees they don’t use or care for

share their trees with
People who want to have trees to nurture and harvest …
wannabe urban orchardists

To form a shared “Urban Orchard”

... where urban orchardists nurture and harvest the trees …

and share the harvest with tree owners, family, friends and community.

The project will operate on the permaculture ethical principles of “earth care, people care and fair shares for all”.
